Recipe of the Moment: Mango Guacamole

Most people become very suspicious when guacamole is changed. Especially when you add fruit in it. I understand their concerns. I had them as well. Plus, I wasn't a huge fan of guacamole in general. But when I tried mango guacamole at my free cooking class, I loved it. So did everyone else who tried it. This was my first real attempt at preparing food from scratch. I admit, I had to have someone supervise me, and I had to have my supervisor figure out what was missing from the original recipe. But other than that, it was all me!

Ingredients
4 avocados
1 mango
2 tomatoes
1/2 onion
cilantro
lemon/lime juice
garlic*

Preparation
Peel mango. Chop onion, tomatoes, and avocados. Only use the tomato skin. Combine all ingredients. Mash.

I normally hate cilantro, but it tasted great in the recipe. I bought a bundle of cilantro, and I believe I chopped up a good handful. Garlic was the special ingredient my friend added that brought out a lot of flavor and made it great. She had minced garlic in the fridge, and I believe she added around a teapoon.

  1. I'm not a big fan of guac period, but this sounds intresting. Is it very sweet? Or is it more citrus-y because of the lemon/lime juice? And did you use both of those or just one? I'm asking because my mom & sis (sis especially) are fans of guac & may like this.

  2. I wasn't really a huge fan of guac either, but I really like this. I just used the lime juice, but using lemon (instead of lime) can give it a different flavor. It tastes good too, but I preferred the lime.

It wasn't overly sweet either. I think it was just sweet enough. And if you got a scoop of dip without a mango cube, you almost wouldn't know the mango was in there. I'd definitely give it a try, everyone loved it!
